'But by the grace of God I am what I am'.

No one could have told me that a teenage mother from Brooklyn would be impacting the lives of thousands of youth and adults, preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world, a published author, or a television producer. As a matter of fact, some folks verbalized their lack of faith in a teenage mother surpassing her current circumstances. People relied more on statistics that says:

"Educational achievement affects the lifetime income of teen mothers: two-thirds of families started by teens are poor, and nearly one in four will depend on welfare within three years of a child's birth."

The impact of our environment and those that have been placed in our lives to raise us and impart knowledge and wisdom into us often take their responsibility for granted. And because of the absence of leadership, experience, and resources, the odds of succeeding in life are slim to none. But God!.

Shay L. Askew is a Jesus girl, an ordained reverend, talk show host, award-winning producer, author, educator, blogger, ministry leader, and mother. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and comes from a huge family. Overcoming many challenges in life including being a teenage mother, Shay understood the importance of education and working hard to achieve her goals.

Shay has held various administrative roles in ministry.  She became a member at Bethel Gospel Tabernacle in the summer of 2008. She quickly began working with the children’s camp in the position of Executive Director.  She became an ordained reverend in September of 2019. She is the co-leader of CARE Small Group Ministry, and she heads the BGT's Single Ministry.  As the leader of the singles ministry, Shay focuses on teaching both male and female the importance and need for wholeness in this hour and something to obtain before marriage.  She stresses the value of being single and satisfied, ensuring that the single life is lived to the fullest while waiting for the mate to arrive.

Shay is the President of Shay L. Askew Ministries. Her ministry endeavors include producing the talk shows “The Truth & A Church Girl” which is centered around how people experience God. She produces and hosts a bi-weekly television program titled “Spiritual Sense w/Shay”. This show can be seen on the BRIC Cable Network every 2nd and 4th Sunday at 7:30 am and 2:30 pm.  Shay is an award-winning producer. She became the first producer to win the 2016 BRIC People's Choice Award. Shay has a weekly inspirational podcast titled “I Am More Than This!” that inspires and empowers people to rise above their current situation and go after the life they want.

She preaches at various churches throughout the New York/New Jersey area. Whether she is in the classroom, presenting at workshops, hosting, or blogging, Shay is often found motivating, inspiring, and encouraging all those that she comes in contact with. She has a heart for women self-development and has held several empowerment workshops.

Shay teaches high school English in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn.  Every day she has the opportunity to teach a rigorous curriculum, life skills, and humanity that will take each child further in life. She is affectionately known to many of her students as 'mommy' or 'auntie'.  Shay sees all of her students as her kids and believes that with education, each child can reinvent themselves however many times they need too.

Shay’s latest endeavor is the release of her new book “Lord, What’s My Path: The Planning, Anointing, Timing & Harvest for Your Life". The book is a spiritual guide to assist believers in finding God’s plan for their life; operating in the anointing in which they are called, flowing with God’s timing, and reaping the harvest God promised. This book started as a journal entry, and with the abundant grace of God, it evolved into a book that will indeed bless the lives of millions.

Shay has obtained an Associate Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Medgar Evers College. She attended John Jay College and completed a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree with a concentration in Management and Operations. Shay attended Alliance Theological Seminary (ATS) @ Nyack College where she obtained a Master of Divinity (M.Div) degree with a concentration in Church Development.

“To Whom Much Is Given, Much Is Required” (Luke 12:48) is Shay’s mantra. She believes that all of who we are, and all of what we have, it was given to us, by God, to serve others.
